Project
August Wilson: The Writer’s Landscape is the first-ever exhibition dedicated to the life and works of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson. The 3,600-square-foot permanent exhibition explores the people and places of Pittsburgh, where Wilson was born and raised, and which had a profound impact on shaping his worldview and inspiring his unprecedented 10-play American Century Cycle. A Writer’s Landscape, which is free of charge and open daily, expands the AWAACC’s mission to offer programs and resources that advance Wilson’s legacy, celebrate Black culture, and champion future innovators in arts and culture.
Progress
The Writer’s Landscape opened at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in spring 2022. The opening of the exhibit garnered glowing media coverage, including on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday. Constanza Romero-Wilson, the playwright’s widow, said of the exhibit: "I was absolutely thrilled to have a place dedicated to his legacy that I hope will continue to outlive us all. It’s a lasting monument to my late husband’s contributions to American cultural history."
